Located just south of Beltway 8 and divided on the east and west by Highway 288, Pearland touches three counties including Harris, Brazoria and Fort Bend counties. With a population north of 100,000 residents, Pearland is one of the largest cities in the Greater Houston area.
The area did in fact have a history of pears, and many other fruit trees as well! The Galveston Hurricane of 1900 decimated many of the area's orchards, followed by a hard freeze in 1918 that further damaged the area's agricultural base. Growth remained stagnant in the area, despite the discovery of oil in the 1930's. The 1970' s ushered in an era of population growth that has continued to present day.
With downtown Houston just 16 miles away, Pearland is a suburban retreat for many commuters and families. Home to several master planned communities including Shadow Creek Ranch. The area is also home to several large employment hubs of it's own.
Residents and visitors alike can enjoy shopping and dining at Pearland Town Center, as well as several small, locally owned boutiques, cafes and restaurants.
Residents have a number of living options to choose from in Pearland. Established communities with ranch style homes are available, as are new and newer construction single family and townhome selections. Areas of the community are also still tied to their rural, agricultural roots, and acreage opportunities exist on the outskirts.
